🔪 How to Make Sugar-Free White Hot Chocolate
Pour the almond milk and heavy cream into a saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer.

Add in the white chocolate chips and whisk as they melt.

Once completely melted, remove from the heat and whisk in the vanilla extract.

Add in ½ teaspoon of the peppermint extract and taste it to see how you like it. It should be subtle, but if you prefer stronger peppermint flavor, whisk in another ½ teaspoon.

It’s ready to serve and you can add some (optional) whip cream and crushed peppermint candies over the top.

☑️ Storage Instruction
Refrigerator: Store in a sealed jar for up to three days. Reheat slowly on the stovetop and whisk until smooth.
Freezer: Frozen hot chocolate is amazing! Just freeze leftover hot chocolate in ice cube trays. Once frozen, drop them into a freezer bag. Then, when you’re ready for an icy and refreshing beverage, drop a few cubes into the blender with an extra splash of almond milk. Blend until nice and smooth.
🍴 What to Serve with White Hot Chocolate
What goes with hot cocoa better than cookies? Here are some of my favorite holiday favorties:
- White Chocolate Peppermint Cookies
- Cranberry Thumbprint Cookies
- Chocolate Dipped Shortbread Cookies
- Mocha Meringue Cookies
- No Bake Keto Cookies

💡 Tips
- Warm the almond milk and cream slowly so the white chocolate melts evenly.
- Keep the heat low to prevent the cream from separating.
- Add extract a little at a time since the flavor grows stronger as it warms.
- If the drink thickens while it sits, whisk in a small splash of almond milk.
- Add a keto sweetener if you prefer a sweeter drink.

🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- Protein: Stir in a little protein powder for extra richness without changing the flavor.
- Espresso: Add espresso for a peppermint white mocha holiday-style coffeehouse treat.
- Extract: Swap vanilla extract for almond extract if you like a soft nutty flavor.
- Milk: Use coconut milk instead of almond milk for a creamier, thicker drink.
- Cream cheese: A teaspoon can thicken the drink of you want a richer version.
- Cocoa powder twist: A tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder turns it into a peppermint white and dark hybrid. Very fun and very festive.

Can I Make This In The Microwave?
Yes, heat the milk and cream in short intervals, then stir in the chocolate until smooth.
Why Did My Hot Chocolate Turn Grainy?
The heat was too high. Warm it low and slow and whisk until the chocolate melts gently.
Can I Use Regular Milk Instead of Almond milk?
Yes, but keep in mind that regular milk is not typically considered low carb.
Is Peppermint Extract the Same as Mint Extract?
No, they are not the same. Mint extract is usually a blend of peppermint and spearmint, which gives it a milder, slightly sweeter flavor. Peppermint extract has a cooler, stronger mint flavor. They can work differently in recipes, so it’s important to use the one the recipe calls for.
