When blackberries go on sale or you have an abundance of them during their peak season, this easy jam recipe makes the most of them. Fresh blackberries are slightly sweetened, simmered and made into the easiest jam you will ever make.
And the best part is it will last you up to 2 weeks in the fridge, but if you happen to have any leftovers, you can freeze it. I’ve frozen, thawed and used my jam so many times, so I always have some on hand when needed.

There are so many ways to put this blackberry jam to good use, besides the usual spreading it over toast. I’ve listed some creative ways to use it down below.

🔪 How to Make Chia Seed Jam
Add the blackberries, honey and lemon juice to a saucepan over medium low heat.

Simmer for 5-6 minutes, stirring often. Use the back of your fork or a potato masher to help the blackberries break down as they simmer.

Turn off the heat, then stir in chia seeds and vanilla extract.

Let it sit for 20 minutes at room temperature, then chill in the fridge. It will thicken as it cools.

If you don’t like the chunky texture, you can puree half of all of the jam in a food processor. That is exactly what I did with my batch and it turned out perfect!

💡 Tips
- If you’re not a fan of the chunky texture, you can mash the blackberries as they are simmering in the saucepan.
- Stir often to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Resist the urge to cook at a higher temperature, and be sure to cook the jam on a gentle simmer.
- If you have other berries on hand, you can add them in like I did in this Mixed Berry Jam, or use a combination of berries if you’d like.
☑️ Storage Instructions
Store in an airtight jar in the fridge for 2 weeks or freeze.

🔄 Ways to Use Blackberry Jam

How to store homemade blackberry jam?
It's best to store jam in an airtight jar, to avoid it being exposed to air.

If your jam has gone bad, you should see some discoloration, signs of mold growing, smell could be off and the texture could also have changed.
