🔪 How to Make Skillet Cinnamon Apples
Peel, core and slice your apples.

I like to use a tool that makes it easier and the apple slices are all the same size.

Add the apples to a mixing bowl.

Then sprinkle the brown sweetener, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and vanilla over the top.

Toss until well coated.
Heat a large skillet to medium low and add in the butter. Once melted, pour in the apples and sauté uncovered for a few minutes or until slightly softened.

Pour the lemon juice and water over the apples and toss. Put a lid on and continue sautéing a few more minutes or until the apples have almost reached your desired texture. Remove the lid and cook the last couple of minutes uncovered to allow the liquid to thicken. Cooking times will all depend on how thin you sliced your apples.

They are ready to serve warm or you can chill them in the fridge and serve cold.
💡 Tips
- I recommend peeling your apples, rather than cook them with the skins on. You will get a much better texture this way.
- Make sure to slice them all the same size to ensure they cook evenly.
- If you use an all in one apple corer and slicer, it makes slicing them that much quicker and they'll all be the same size, so it's a win-win!
- If you plan to serve them warm, allow them to cool slightly so that the syrup/sauce thickens up a little.

☑️ Storage Instructions
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days.
🍴 What to Serve Cinnamon Apples With
These are so many ways to serve these delicious and easy to make apples, here are some of my favorites:
- Ice Cream: Serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that will slowly melt into the apples. It's hard to beat that combination that is reminiscent of an apple crisp.
- Savory: Serve warm over pan fried pork chops to make them a little extra special.
- Pie Filling: Use as an apple pie or apple crisp filling, instead of a store bought that is loaded with unhealthy additives and processed sugar.
- Crepes: This filling is perfect to roll up into crepes, then top with some homemade whip cream. Perfect for brunch or an afternoon snack.
- Breakfast: Take ordinary pancakes, waffles or French toast to another level by spooning these apples over the tops.
- Oatmeal: Spoon them warm over your oatmeal and they are DELISH! They will give you a similar flavor to my Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats recipe.
- Milkshake: This might sound a little unconventional, but if you happen to have a little leftover, blend them with some almond milk and vanilla ice cream for an apple pie milkshake like you've never had before!

🔄 Substitutions and Additions
- I prefer to use Honeycrisp apples for this dessert, but you can use Pink Lady, MacIntosh, Gala or even a combination of Granny Smith for a little tartness, along with your favorite sweet variety.
- For a little punch of citrus, add in some orange zest, it will brighten up the apples and give them such a nice flavor.
- You can also use some Apple Pie Spice to give the apples an even more traditional apple pie flavor.
- If you want more sauce to pour over or in something, you can add in more cold water mixed with a little cornstarch to make a slurry, then mix into the apples and cook until thickened.
- If you really want to kick the flavor up a notch, instead of water, use apple cider instead. This is actually what I use to make my Homemade Applesauce recipe and it really gives it such a wonderful flavor!

Which apples are best for cinnamon apples?
This really comes down to personal preference, but Honeycrisp, which is what I use, is the most popular choice. But there are alternatives that you can use instead, that I mentioned above.
Can diabetics eat cinnamon apples?
Generally yes, since they are lower in carbs and sugar. Plus if you use the monk fruit/allulose brown sweetener alternative that I use, you're not adding any actual sugar, so you only have the natural sugar from the apples, which is pretty low.
Are cinnamon apples healthy?
Yes, especially if you use the sweetener I mentioned above, is you're not adding any actual processed sugar to them.
