💡 Tips for Making Garlic Cheese Bread

    • Use room-temperature butter:  Softened butter spreads more evenly over every part of the bread. Set your butter out for about 30 minutes before mixing.
    • Toast the bread slightly first: As an optional step, if you like extra crispiness, you can toast the bread halves under the broiler for a couple of minutes before adding the butter mixture.
    • Finely grate the garlic: Grating garlic or using a garlic press helps it blend better with the butter, giving a more even garlic flavor across each bite without chunks.
    • Brush the edges with butter: To prevent the edges from drying out, brush a bit of extra butter mixture along the edges of the bread before baking. This will give them a nice golden color and keep them soft.
    • Bake until bubbly: After adding the cheese, bake the bread until the cheese is bubbly. This adds a perfect golden, gooey top.

    ☑️ Storage Instructions

Fridge: Wrap leftovers in plastic wrap or store in an airtight container. They’ll stay fresh for about 3-4 days. To reheat, pop the slices in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melty again.

Freezer: For longer storage, wrap individual slices in plastic wrap then place them in a freezer-safe bag. They’ll keep well for up to 3 months. To reheat, bake frozen slices at 375°F for about 15-20 minutes or until warmed through and bubbly.

🍴 What to Serve with Toasted Garlic Bread

Garlic bread is the perfect side dish for so many dishes! Here are some great options:

    • Classic pasta dishes: Pair this cheesy bread with comforting favorites like Pasta all Vodka, Red Pepper Pasta, or Creamy Tuscan Tortellini.
    • Hearty soups and stews: Dip your garlic bread into a warm bowl of Creamy Butternut Squash, Homemade Chili, or Chicken Corn Chowder for a cozy, satisfying meal.
    • Fresh salads: Add a refreshing salad like this Italian Pasta Salad, Spinach and Arugula Salad, Shaved Fennel Salad, or this Italian Caprese Salad.
    • Grilled or roasted meats: Garlic bread is a fantastic side for this Oven Roasted Chicken, Grilled Steak, or even this Air Fryer Shrimp.

    🔄 Substitutions and Additions

    • Cheese: Swap mozzarella with provolone, cheddar, or Monterey Jack for a different cheesy twist. You can also use Romano in place of parmesan for a sharper flavor.
    • Bread: Try using ciabatta or sourdough instead of French or Italian bread for a unique texture and flavor.
    • Herbs: Add a sprinkle of fresh or dried Italian herbs, like basil or oregano, to the butter mixture for extra flavor.
    • Red pepper flakes: For a bit of heat, sprinkle some red pepper flakes over the cheese before baking.
    • Balsamic glaze drizzle: For a touch of sweetness, drizzle a small amount of balsamic glaze over the bread once it’s out of the oven.

Can I Use Pre-Shredded Cheese for this Recipe?

You can, however; freshly grated cheese tends to melt better and gives you a creamier texture because it doesn’t contain anti-caking agents found in pre-shredded cheese.

What’s the Best Way to Avoid the Bread Getting Soggy?

To keep the bread from becoming soggy, make sure not to add too much butter. You can also toast the bread lightly in the oven before adding the butter and cheese mixture if you prefer.

Can I Make this Garlic Bread Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can prepare the bread up to the step of spreading the butter mixture. Cover and refrigerate for up to a day. When ready, add the cheese and bake as directed.

Can I Use a Toaster Oven to Make this Garlic Bread?

Yes, a toaster oven works well for smaller portions of garlic bread. Just keep an eye on the bread, as it may cook more quickly in a toaster oven.

Can I Use Garlic Powder Instead of Fresh Garlic?

Yes, if you don’t have fresh garlic on hand, you can substitute it with about ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder for each clove of garlic.
